Within the sphere of aesthetic, morphological and anti-ageing medicine, hyaluronic acid is used as a derma filler to treat fine and deep facial wrinkles (forehead, nasolabial grooves, marionette lines), to plump certain volumes (lips, cheeks) or to correct and sculpt specific zones (nose, chin, temples).
This absorbable synthetic substance is injected as a gel and combines with the hyaluronic acid, which is naturally present in the dermis, to fill, smooth or redesign facial skin to rejuvenate or enhance it.
Hyaluronic acid injections treat not only wrinkles and other signs of cutaneous ageing but also may redesign a face by correcting certain zones. Hyaluronic acid also helps to hydrate the skin in depth when injected during mesotherapy.
What is Hyaluronic acid?
A Carbohydrate with powerful hydrating properties, hyaluronic acid is found naturally throughout our body and acts like a sponge since it is able to hold and fix up to 1000 times its weight in water.
In fact, this cellular component retains the water in our deep tissues, maintains our skin well-hydrated resulting in our skin retaining elasticity and tone. This hydrophilic molecule plays a fundamental role in our body to help cutaneous healing.
This substance is found not only in aesthetics but also in cosmetics (anti-wrinkle creams) and even in dietary supplements.
For whom are Hyaluronic acid injections?
Hyaluronic acid is an authoritative ant-ageing product for aesthetic doctors and surgeons. Since its effects are reversible, this injectable filler is much appreciated by patients who wish to avoid permanent results.
If well injected, it will be effective in specific zones which need a little volume restoring or filling as well as in zones which require in-depth volume.
I use only safe, proven injectable products, formulated with hyaluronic acid and obtained through biotechnological techniques: the molecules are identical to those in our body and do not result in any intolerance or allergic reaction.
Generally speaking, hyaluronic acid injections may be given to all skin types, including dark skins which are thicker and more prone to scarring. An experienced aesthetics doctor or surgeon will know to choose those products best suited to your wrinkles or physiognomy.
Be aware that other volumizing products of lesser quality than hyaluronic acid-based products do exist. For example, collagen is less effective. Non-resorbable products are much less precise in their use since it is impossible to rework the injection during a check-up. Yet other products such as Dermalife or Artecoll may be dangerous as they could cause a permanent inflammatory granuloma. For this reason, hyaluronic acid is THE authoritative product on all counts.
Which zones can be treated and where is it injected?
Hyaluronic acid-based derma fillers may be injected into different zones to:
- Eliminate fine facial wrinkles and those of the forehead,
- Liven up the eye area and eliminate crow’s feet,
- Plump lips (increase their volume if too thin), restore their volume and re-draw the contour of the mouth,
- Fill the hollows left by dark circles or at temple area,
- Sharpen the curve of the cheeks and redefine cheeks to rejuvenate the face,
- Treat nasolabial grooves (on either side of the nostrils and down to the corners of the mouth) and the marionette lines (on either side of the mouth to the chin),
- Redefine the mandibular line and face oval,
- Project a receding chin or fill a chin fold,
- Conduct a medical rhinoplasty,
- Re-densify and rehydrate neck, décolletage or hands,
- Masculinise a jaw by emphasising its right angle.
Hyaluronic acid to fill fine and deep wrinkles
Over time, the quantity and quality of hyaluronic acid naturally present in our body lessens. Skin becomes dehydrated, dries and the first wrinkles or fine lines appear on our face: forehead, lion wrinkle, nasolabial grooves, marionette lines, tear troughs, crow’s feet, labial commissures, jugular wrinkles….
Thanks to its hydrating and volumizing properties, the hyaluronic acid we use in derma fillers helps combat the signs of ageing in a very natural way. Injected beneath the dermis, the treatment fades wrinkles and cutaneous ageing signs restoring its density, elasticity and tone.
Hyaluronic acid to restore fullness and sculpt the face.
Because hyaluronic acid has a plumping and volumizing effect many practitioners use it to simulate a “lift” in a precise zone by directly adding volume to the zone.
It also is used to increase volume of the lips and mouth, redefine the face oval or chin, restore shape to the cheeks, sharpen the curve of the cheeks, raise eyebrows or fill the temples or dark circles hollowed out over the years.
The choice of hyaluronic acid to be used is vitally important and depends on the type of correction desired and the zone to be treated: for these types of injections, I shall choose a cross-linked, concentrated, hyaluronic acid-based product. Conversely, a fluid product will hydrate rather than volumize.
Hyaluronic acid to rectify certain nasal flaws
Each nose is unique. To be called pretty, a nose must be in harmony with the whole of the face. An aquiline nose, a turned-up nose or a Greek nose will all be aesthetic and give character to your face. However, occasionally Nature forgets to harmonise and leaves a slight imperfect curvature or volume.
With the arrival of hyaluronic acid and Botox in the early 2000’s, medical rhinoplasty evolved so that certain flaws of the nose could be improved without resorting to surgery.
Thanks to this aesthetic, non-invasive medical procedure, the practitioner can rectify a hump or a hollow, raise or refine its tip, reposition its angle, fill the hollow between nose and forehead to improve the profile, tighten dilated nostrils, rectify asymmetry or rectify the results of a disastrous surgical rhinoplasty with simple hyaluronic injections to the nose.
Hyaluronic acid to eliminate hand and décolletage wrinkles
The face is such an important feature of aesthetics medicinethat the neck, décolletage or hands are sometimes ignored or forgotten so betraying the age your face tends to mask. These areas also age and are nearly as exposed to weather conditions and UV rays as is the face;but they too can benefit from appropriate treatments to maintain the harmony between different zones of the body.
Thanks to hyaluronic acid injections, it is now possible to treat signs of ageing, tobacco and sun damage (fine lines, dehydrated skin, sagging, liver spots and port wine stains, striae) on the hands, neck and décolletage.
Before any procedure, I assess your skin quality and suggest different solutions to rejuvenate it.
I use canulae in these fine and delicate areas, in order to reduce any after effects. The procedure lasts for between 15 and 30 minutes and cause little pain; they may be combined with treatments to other zones such as the facial oval.
What happens during a Hyaluronic acid injection procedure?
My procedure:
I inject a dose of hyaluronic acid below the skin layers, at a variable depth depending upon my diagnostic, the zone to be treated and the result desired: into the fatty subcutaneous area at the heart of a superficial wrinkle, in depth close to the underlying bone for a volumizing effect.
The procedure lasts approximately 15 to 30 minutes depending on the number of zones to treat and the desired result; you may resume your social and professional activities immediately after.
Results obtained with hyaluronic acid:
Hyaluronic acid is an absorbable, biodegradable filler with immediate but temporary results. The hyaluronic acid injections I give last between 9 and 18 months varying with your age, smoking, sun exposure and zones treated.
On thinner skin zones, the results will last for between 9 and 12 months.
On thicker skin zones, the results will last for up to 18 months.
The more the treated zones are mobile, the quicker the product tends to be absorbed.
Since the results using hyaluronic acid are temporary, you will be obliged to repeat the treatment for a long-term result. For the results not to disappear completely before undergoing further treatment, I suggest you make an appointment once or twice a year.
Post injection recommendations:
Post injection procedure, I recommend that you do not use a Spa (sauna, hammam, facial massage) for 24 hours, that you do not take anti-inflammatory drugs for 4 hours or practice any sport for 2 hours.
A few days after the procedure, you shall return to my practice for a free check-up to confirm that this aesthetic act has your full satisfaction.
It is always possible to modify an injection by injecting hyaluronidase, which is risk-free and almost immediately destroys the excess hyaluronic acid beneath your skin. It is also possible to add a little more volume for a more noticeable result.
Possible unwanted after effects:
Any medical act, however light, involves uncertainties and risks.
By choosing Centre Esthétique Verdi, you will limit the risk of complications since most potential hyaluronic acid problems arise from the product itself and the unforeseeable reactions it can cause: allergy reactions, localised post-injection reactions, granulomata (small nodules which can be felt along the injection path).
Fees:
The fee for a hyaluronic acid injection depends on the zone to be treated as well as the amount of filler to be injected. The cost of treatment starts at 300€.
I only use products which I deem to be the best: Juvederm,(Ultra-smile, Voluma), Restilane, Emervel, Theosyal.
